Adventures in cooking – Part one

Hi,

For those of you who know me in real life I am not much of a cook. I am one of those frozen food gals that just pops food in the oven for 20-25mins then it’s ready to be served!

This past weekend I decided that everything my boyfriend and I were buying in the food shopping was going to be fresh and I was going to cook everything from scratch. The week has been good so far on Monday I cooked Mince, scurlie and mashed potato. On Tuesday I cooked Sausage and Mash. This is a huge achievement for me as I usually would have cooked us something along the lines of turkey drummers and potato wedges, full of good nutrients obviously!

To help aid me in my quest for cooking I decided the other day to buy a cook book, this for anyone who knows me is comical because I go through these phases where I want to cook fresh and that’s all it is a phase. This time however though I have been doing a lot better than I have done before! Ordering a cook book was purely to give me some good ideas for what to cook because I really don’t have a clue! The book I bought is a “best of British” it has all your home favourites and classics in it including toad in the hole, Yorkshire puddings and many more.

I am a baker, I can bake cakes, scones anything baking wise I can do. Putting ingredients together and baking it, I am more than capable. When it comes to cooking for some reason it just totally boggles my brain! Why I have no idea, it just happens!
The other day whilst food shopping I bought gnocchi, this is just condensed potato in a compact package. I had to ask my dad what you serve that with because I had absolutely no idea!

I class this as my cooking adventures because I am not really 100% as to where this could take me. I am however very excited about cooking fresh! It might be a bit more expensive for your food shop at the end of every week, but my boyfriend also then has lunch to take for the next day so pennies are being saved somewhere!

Thanks for reading
Katy
