Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk
The last mortal instruments - Cassandra Clare
Red Dragon - Thomas Harris
Trainspotting - Irvine Welsh
Requiem for a dream - Hubert Selby Jr
I am a slow reader, the
only time I usually read is when I am on the bus travelling to and from work. I
love reading but never seem to make any other time for it except for when I am
travelling. Last Christmas my mum bought me a kindle, so this year I have
definitely got through a lot more reading than usual. Usually if I had to
forfeit space in my bag it would be my book, usually the weight of books doesn’t
seem appealing in your handbag when travelling. Since I have had my kindle
however I always have books with me on it, even when I finish one I have
another one just there waiting for me to start. The only downside is you have
to of course charge it which you don’t have to do with a book. Saying that
though since December last year I have only charged my kindle four times and
that is with using it on a daily basis, so the battery life on it is amazing.
Anyway, this year I set
myself a challenge of reading a certain amount of books. I am completely off
target but I have however read a lot more books than I would have originally in
a year. I’ve started reading books that I have wanted to read for such a long
time but just never got down to buying it, now I just download it straight onto
my kindle from amazon J
Just now I am currently
reading Fight Club by Chuck P, I’ve seen the film hundreds of times but
never actually read the book. I am loving the style and the way Chuck writes, I
have a few of his other books downloaded onto my kindle for when the mood strikes
me to read another one. I’m just over half way through this book and I’m just
at the bit when everything starts to fall into place for Tyler Durden! I’ll say
no more in case you’ve never read or seen it!
The Last Mortal Instruments – This book was really
good, it was a bit like a teenage novel with vampires etc but thankfully none
of them were sparkly. I made it my mission to read this before going to see the
film, sadly whilst it was in the cinema I didn’t even get a chance to see it.
It is however pre-ordered on my amazon for when it comes out. For a twenty
something female I still enjoyed this book even if I think it is more aimed for
a teenage audience.
Red Dragon – I loved this book! I had
never seen the film of this before, I’d seen Hannibal, Silence of the lambs and
Hannibal Rising but never Red Dragon. The way this book was written was very
good. This was definitely a constant page turner! I then went on to watching the
film afterwards and that was really good too. I always like to try read the
book first so I can create the characters in my head, to usually then be
disappointed when I see who they choose for the films.
Trainspotting and Requiem
for a Dream – I had seen both of these films and they were really good, but totally
depressing. The bad thing is I read these two books one after the other, which
was really not a good idea. To stay with the books may heroin look so
glamorous but as the books go on it shows you the real side of it. I can
thankfully say I have never been curious to try this lifestyle and after these
two books I never would.
