Quitting Smoking

Hello,

Today I would like to share with you my experience of quitting smoking. As a smoker, I am not alone in saying that I have tried to quit smoking many times and failed. I have always started off with good intentions but I have never got past a full month of not smoking.

As it is the start of a new year, everyone is getting their resolutions in, and a lot of people are choosing smoking to give up. To give up smoking you really need to have determination and a good strong willed attitude towards it. I think the way that people succeed in quitting for good, is having your mind 100% decided that that is it, no more.

I do not have all of the advice and all of the answers because I have never succeed with quitting. This is just a diary of how I feel, side effects and if I am successful or not.

So here goes:

Days 1-3 – Stage One

I felt that the cravings were the worst part of this stage, kicking the habit is definitely the worst part for me! I also have been suffering headaches, which have not been the best, they are not quite as bad as a migraine but they are pretty bad background noise.

I’ve not been as hungry as I was expecting though, I did think I was going to be constantly hungry so I am pleasantly surprised by this!

My sleeping pattern however has been pretty much destroyed, this seems to be my worst bit of quitting so far, I do love getting a proper uninterrupted sleep before work, I guess I better kiss goodbye to good sleep for a few weeks!

My official quit date was at 12am on the 1st January, but I will be posting this posts a few days later just so my stages are a little more apart, and from boring you on a daily basis regarding it.

Thank you for reading,

Have you given up smoking for the new year? I’d love to hear your progress.

Katy

P.S The method I am using for quitting smoking is cold turkey, I am not using any nicotine replacement products.
