Hello,
Today I’d like to share with you a few
facts about Octopus seeing as the Octopus is one of my favourite sea creatures.
·
Octopus are very fascinating creatures and are one of my
favourite invertebrates. They are considered to be most intelligent of all invertebrates
and have a lot of human like qualities that i am going to share.
·
As predators, Octopus need to understand and remember their
environment and behaviour of other animals to help them capture their unexpected
prey.
·
Studies have shown that octopuses learn easily, including
learning by observation of other octopuses.
·
They are great problem solvers, as they can at times be seen
removing a plug or unscrewing a lid to get a prey from a container.
·
Common octopuses will collect crustacean shells and other objects
to construct fortresses around where they live to protect it. Other octopuses
carry shells for protection.
·
There are around 300 recognized octopus species.
·
All octopuses are venomous, but only the small blue-ringed
octopuses are known to be deadly to humans.
·
Octopuses have three hearts. Two pump blood through each of the
two gills, while the third pumps blood through the body.
·
They have beaklike jaws that can deliver a nasty bite, and
venomous saliva mainly used for subduing pray.
·
An octopus can lose an arm to escape a predator’s grasp and
re-grow it later with no permanent damage
·
The amazing mimic octopuses are capable of changing their body
shape to mimic other animals.
·
Scientists believe that octopuses have individual responses and
individual temperaments which results in them all having individual
personalities.
I hope you have enjoyed my little fact file
today about Octopuses. I will being doing little fact files not only animals
throughout the year but also on things like Vikings, Tudors and much more.
Thank you for reading
Katy
